As if there weren’t enough critters hunting for stuff in this story, now old Bo Gator is going out hunting for a nice juicy slug. Gunther has gotten his wish and he’s now front and center on Bo’s menu.

I really don’t know why but have developed an instant fondness for that Gator.
That Bo Gator is cool in my book. ๐
Ha! Bo, how many people are so easily turned into a comic? This is great!
I have been wanting to introduce an alligator character into the BugPudding cast for a long time, but I wanted him to be a very distinctive personality. When I watched the web video Bo Lumpkin made promoting the Bo Dryer, I laughed so hard and decided that was a great inspiration for my gator. And naturally I had to honor his namesake. BO DRYER VIDEO
I can see it now in big lights… Bo Lumpkin.. star of stage, cheap made videos and comic strips. At last I’m gonna be famous.
OMG I love Bo Gator! He has that “Pogo” charm. Instantly likable like his namesake. ๐
I grew up reading Walt Kelly’s Pogo and it was a huge influence for me at a relatively early age. I was also heavily influenced by Jeff MacNelly’s comic Shoe. One of the most difficult parts of doing an animal or critter comic for me is to try to keep it fresh and original. I also have been heavily influenced by my love for the classic Loony Tune cartoons. I am never sure about subliminal or unconscious thinking when I decide on a particular critter to add to the cast. In the case of Bo Gator, he just seemed to evolve in my mind after seeing Bo Lumpkin’s video. Just a big hulk of a guy who’s always thinking and inventing and promoting something. I actually thought about many different animals for the Bo character but eventually the connection between Bo Lumpkin and his Gatorhead blog just spoke to me and said he’s just naturally got to be an alligator. Any similarity to Albert Alligator is unintended even though he is certainly one of my favorite Pogo characters.
Bo Gator wants to put the Slug in a Jug? There’s a catchy jingle in there somewhere.
btw, I tried the Bo Dryer on my hair, and almost hung myself! (It shoulda come with a warning label!)
Discovered your site from Bo’s blog. Great character. The Bo Dryer works for me, dunno why someone didn’t think of it sooner.
Really nice art, J.P. Can definitely see the Pogo influence. Might as well be inspired by the best. Shoe was a really great strip, too, but is generally under-appreciated, I think.
Great to see comments from new readers, I certainly hope you’ll return often. There is a new comic every Tues and Thurs.
Is Bo Gator wearing Alligator boots?
Hi Jerry, it’s been awhile. Glad to see you are still doing what you love. I stumbled across your comic, but will check it out more often.
Bearman,
Funny that you should ask that question, Bo’s attire as the story moves forward will hopefully be a subject of interest.
Al,
Great to hear from you. I miss our working together. I’m glad you found the comic. I hope all is well. Drop by often and comment, plus you can always write me an e-mail too.
I hope Bo Gator is a little smarter than Uncle Albert. I have noticed the Pogo influence in your strip (without sacrificing originality). Just keep doin’ what you are doin’. It’s workin’.
Marty-
If I redo the Bo-Dryer infomercial I will certainly include a warning about drying your hair. LOL
